Fellow Applications for Cohort 3 have a priority deadline of Friday, March 22, 2024. We will continue to take applications after March 22nd, but once our cohort is filled, applicants will be added to the waitlist.

Fellows will be required to attend a Matching Fair on Thursday, April 25th from 3-6 pm in LIB_202A (Author's Hall on Cal Poly Humboldt Campus) during which they will introduce themselves to Community Partner sites and network with incoming Cohort 3 Fellows. 

 

The Cal Poly Humboldt Center for Community-Based Learning has been awarded a grant from the California Volunteers, Office of the Governor called #CaliforniansforAll College Corps to support 120 Cal Poly Humboldt and College of the Redwoods students, including AB540 Dreamers, each year for 450 hours (~15 hours per week) of in-person community service. Learn, serve, and earn in academic year 2024-25. The Fellows’ time and talent will help revitalize and energize our community-based organizations and advance our campus strategic priorities.
 

Our Three Core Goals:

  1. Engage college students in meaningful service opportunities that build leadership skills and civic responsibility.
  2. Help students from diverse backgrounds graduate college on time and with less debt.
  3. Support the work of community-based organizations focused on key local priorities.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Passion for working in partnership with communities to make positive change; 
  • Flexibility to work in different areas and adapt to changing circumstances; 
  • Growth mindset and eagerness to try new things; 
  • Interest in connecting with and learning from other students and partners across the state; 
  • Willingness to be an ambassador for the Fellowship on campus and beyond.

What You’ll Do:

Fellows will serve 450 hours (~15 hours/week) during the Academic Year in the focus areas of K-12 EducationFood Insecurity, and Climate Action, building healthier and more equitable communities across California.
 
What You’ll Gain:
  • Up to $7,000 Living Stipend (distributed monthly from September-May) ~ $777 monthly;
  • $3,000 Education Award (upon completion of 450 hours of service) used towards tuition, future loans, and/or graduate school;

  • Access to training, networking, and professional development opportunities;
  • Connections with Fellows across the state via a virtual community platform and regional events;
  • A real-world job experience and skills to add to your resume

​Where You’ll Serve:

College Corps at Cal Poly Humboldt offers service positions in local nonprofits and municipal agencies within a reasonable distance from campus. Our program works with K-12 schools, food banks and pantries, and climate action organizations. While the College Corps staff will try to place you in your top area of interest, the available positions are determined by community needs, so it’s not guaranteed.
 

Eligibility Criteria

General Eligibility:

  • Be a full-time, enrolled undergraduate student at Cal Poly Humboldt or College of the Redwoods (no graduate students) 
  • Must have completed FAFSA or CADAA for the upcoming year (AY 24/25 applications open December 31, 2024)
  • Must currently be and remain in good academic standing (minimum of 2.0 GPA)
  • Ability to commit to the program for the full academic year (August-May)
  • Study stateside for the entire academic year (No Study Abroad)
  • Have a high school diploma or its equivalent by the 2024-2025 AY 

Financial Eligibility:

Students selected to join the Fellowship must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Qualifies for a Federal Pell Grant OR;
  • Qualifies for a State Cal Grant or Middle-Class Scholarship OR;
  • Needs to work part-time and/or borrow student loans to meet their educational costs OR;
  • Must be a US Citizen, US National, legal permanent resident, or AB 540 Eligible Dreamer

Set up a meeting with the Financial Aid Office to see if you are financially eligible and have room in your financial aid package.

Additional Requirements:

  • Complete a National Service Criminal History Check & Live Scan*;
  • Participate fully in mandatory orientation, training, and events for Fellows.

*AB-540 students will not need to complete the National Service Criminal History Check & Live Scan unless they choose to serve with a Community Partner who requires it.
