Food for People - The Food Bank for Humboldt County

Food for People has provided emergency food assistance to Humboldt County since they first opened in 1979. They work to eliminate hunger and improve the health and well-being of the community through access to healthy and nutritious foods, community education and advocacy. Food for People has expanded over the years and now conducts operations out of the Eureka warehouse, providing food for several pantries in the county.

 

Arcata After School Program

The Arcata School District’s offers After-School Programs that serve grades K-8 and provide quality child care that parents rely on throughout the year. A variety of enriching activities such as arts & crafts, games, sports, study time and “free time” for the children are provided in a fun, safe, and friendly environment.

 

Potawot Community Garden (United Indian Health Services)

The Potawot Community Food Garden provides a wide range of fresh, organically grown produce to the community of the United Indian Health Services (UIHS), an organization that serves Native American Indian groups in California. The Community Food Garden distributes produce through a bi-weekly produce stand and through subscription to the Kay Woi basket membership program. They also offer workshops on nutrition, organic agriculture, and hands-on internships during the summer.

 

North Coast Environmental Center

The Northcoast Environmental Center’s mission is to promote understanding of the relations between people and the biosphere and to conserve, protect, and celebrate terrestrial, aquatic, and marine ecosystems of northern California and southern Oregon.

 

Westside Community Improvement Association Jefferson Community Center

The Westside Community Improvement Association operates the Jefferson Community Center, supporting and facilitating programs to combat urban blight and revitalizing neighborhoods by increasing recreational, educational and vocational opportunities for the community.

 
Pacific Union Elementary

In strong partnership with Cal Poly Humboldt and Arcata Parks and Recreation, Pacific Union School District provides excellent and comprehensive academic programs interwoven with fine arts and music. Pacific Union’s arboretum, garden, recycling, and afterschool programs support students and contribute to their sound education foundation.
